The “hood” of Liberty Village in Toronto is delivering a level of food and service that deserves your attention. A huge modern space, open style kitchen serving a busy and ever growing clientele, what more do you need. Apparently more, in addition to the food we are in need of some mile high naughtiness. I’ll explain, a number of years ago the suggestion/invitation was for customers to have sex in their co-ed bathrooms. Yes I said co-ed as in a shared bathroom, how european n’est-ce pas. Now before you think your birthday has come early and you start heading down to mildred’s to celebrate, there are a few things you should know. Number one they are a restaurant and number two, please observe number one once again. Both owners and staff are notorious for being cheeky, it’s what makes life less boring in my opinion. The truth is it’s actually something that got way out of hand in the media and like any smart business owners, why get in the way. The real story comes from two people that care about what makes a restaurant successful, Kevin Gallagher the savvy front man and Donna Dooer the chef at Mildred’s Temple. Success has a formula and these two owners are the real reason why this restaurant deserves attention. After reading Kaori Furue’s article in the Torontoist back in 2010, you see the picture much clearer about the antics and showmanship they share with themselves and their customers. This character and charm only adds to their religious food following. What you really get at mildred’s is an eclectic group of enthusiastic food lovers, that really enjoy the attention their plate gets before it reaches the table. Simply inspired food, considerate service in a grand open space. As for the naughtiness well… wait for the pilot to set the seatbelt signs to off and hope for a lot of turbulance.

A wonderful combination of elegance and ambience. This tastefully designed restaurant of Chef Paul Boehmer also named after him “Boehmer” On Ossington is a welcoming delight to one’s senses. Assorted cheese plates with a complimenting wine to Kobe Beef on the perfect side of medium. I was quite pleased with everything. Chef Boehmer is at the top of his game after paying his dues in many well known and respected kitchens throughout the city such as The Spoke Club, Opus and The Rose Water Supper Club. If you’re looking for a place to impress your girl, your clients or your friends, this spacious niche and wonderfully knowledgeable staff will help you close any deal. A small warm unassuming Irish pub that serves up some of the best Oysters and gourmet in the city. The attentive staff, great food, Irish whiskeys and fun loving abuse is what makes this place unique. Don’t even think of ordering a fancy drink here! The owner (Patrick McMurray) is the Guinness world oyster shucking champion and owner of another successful restaurant called the Starfish Oyster Bed & Grill on Adelaide St. Be sure to introduce yourself as he sometimes share some great stories of his escapades around the world. If you ever wondered what it would be like to listen to Lenard Cohen on a actual record player while having dinner in a “patio yurt”, you really need to check this spot out.
Some of my favourite meals were of course the Oysters, Mushrooms on toast with blue cheese, The Peat smoked organic Irish salmon with sour cream/lemon and pickled onions. The Mac & Cheese, and last but not least the braised lamb shank with champ and roasted vegetables. For desert the sticky toffee pudding is a must.
